Instagram is always changing...

Growing an account today on Instagram is NOT as easy as it used to be, so it’s important to make sure you are covering your bases with your strategy. Below are four mistakes we often see social media management clients consistently making that may be hurting them from being able to see more progress.

IG Mistake #1: Only Posting Reels

IG Mistake #2: Neglecting Engagement With Current Followers

IG Mistake #3: Mentioning Services Only In Captions

IG Mistake #4: Not Utilizing Stories to Sell Offers

Want to know what to do instead? Let's get into it!

IG Mistake #1: Only Posting Reels

When reels first came out, Instagram was highly suggesting to post reels as much as possible because it was prioritizing short-form video content in order to keep up with TikTok.

However, after a few years of this, IG has realized that this is NOT what supports its user's strategies to grow their ideal audience and has now started to prioritize carousels and photos again.

TIP: Ensure you are posting at least 2-3 carousels a week, and 2-3 reels to keep a healthy balance of both. Having different types of content for your audience to see helps keep things fresh and allows you to showcase your expertise in different ways.

IG Mistake #2: Neglecting Engagement with Current Followers

This a BIG one. We get it, this may come last on your to-do list when it comes to growing your account. It’s hard enough to find time to post the amount of content that it takes to keep up today so spending intentional time engaging with your community at the end of the day can feel like a chore.

But we want to remind you of a few things:

  1. The only way you’re going to convert more clients is by way of nurturing and building relationships.

  2. If you really want to increase conversion, you need to make engaging with your community a top priority and if it doesn’t work for your schedule, this may be something to consider outsourcing, simply because there is so much value to generating future clients here!

Pretty content isn’t going to cut it these days to convert your followers. You need to be willing to GET TO KNOW who is following you and allow them to build trust with you and your brand first.

Let's quit the overwhelm of keeping up, create space for what you want to be doing and draw in new clients with a well managed and stream-lined social media presence.

Mistake #3: Mentioning Services Only in Captions

Unfortunately, captions aren’t as likely to be read these days because the pace on any social media platform is QUICK. Utilizing your caption space to write keywords is very important for SEO but it’s not the only spot you should be sharing about what you offer.

TIP: Post about your services and availability within your stories weekly! You can also add the slides to your highlights for people to find whenever they visit your profile. Make it easy for them to know how to work with you!

Mistake #4: Not Utilizing Stories to Sell Offers

To this day, stories still are very underutilized for selling one's offerings on Instagram. Most business owners and creators get too caught up in creating quality content that they forget to prioritize selling on stories (or selling in general that is). Especially if you’re someone who struggles to generate leads consistently, this should be your TOP PRIORITY.

And by the way: You don’t need x amount of followers in order to start selling and seeing sales. You can absolutely sell to a small audience and create a full-time income. So don’t let this be something that stops you from thinking you should start doing this right now!

We hope having brought these 4 main mistakes on Instagram in 2023 to your awareness is going to bring more clarity on your strategy moving forward.
